Merry Christmas

First of all - hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas.  It was oh so cold here, so we stayed inside and stayed nice and warm.  Our friend Tina came and joined us for lunch and we got to spend the day visiting....it was a wonderful day!  Ken is already for the Auburn/Oregon game with 2 new Auburn t-shirts.    There are random pictures today - dont sure what I did but they are kinda spaced out so shall attempt to let you know what is in each.  The two below of Lucy and Ethel -not sure what I hit to get the caption option....any way--- picture #1 - the stockings were hung and all 3 "girls" were getting new catnip mouses....cute little heads sticking out... #2-Lucy hiding under the tree - wonder if she is thinking if Santa will see her hiding there?  #3 -Miss Kitty (the outside kitty) never gets her pic taken so this morning (Sun.) during our quiet time together I got her pic. #4 -Yesterday the cardinals were abundant in the back yard.  I captured these 2 on the swing. #5 - here is cardinal out on the bird feeder this morning.  note the frost on the ground #6 -the daisys are my back porch are blooming and full of buds just waiting to burst open.  Would someone tell them its Dec. 26!!!! and #7 - to compare the "spring" on my backporch with daisys blooming, when I went to get the paper this morning the birdbath by the front porch had a frozen block of ice in it.  Somehow I got it turned sideways (not sure how to fix).  the leaves in the ice are from the sage bush.  It was like we had 2 different weather zones in our yard..... The last two are of Lucy and Ethel getting high.  Ethel more than Lucy is addicted to the Nip!!!!!  She leaps in the air, does backflips, just goes WILD!!!   Wishing everyone a quiet day today - enjoy your loved ones and enjoy the time you have with them.  All our love,  Ken and Glynda
Lucy and Ethel  on Kitty Crack (aka Cat Nip) - parents we must learn to say NO!

Happy Wednesday

Hi everyone - can't believe that we are only 3 days from Christmas.  Hope everyone is ready!  The past 2 weeks the cats have all been oh so super sweet and loving....do you think they know Santa is watching (tee hee hee!).  Ken had therapy on Mon. and did some walking with the walker and the total gym.  He has 4 more visits so we will go 2 times each week for 2 weeks.  I went and had lunch today with Cherry and her girls then went to see Narnia.  Thanks girls for a wonderful and delightful afternoon.  And thank you Lily for a wonderful Lily original ornament.  Its already on the tree.  Narnia was great.   It was a perfect way to spend a gray day.  We may get out tomorrow for a bit - Ken wants to go Christmas shopping!!!!!!  Not sure if I am ready for it.... should be lots of people but I've never been out in the "last minute crowds" so looking forward to it....kinda.  But the fact that he wants to get out and go shopping is music to my ears.  He is feeling so much better since the surgery and is now wanting to venture out more and more.  Who knows, by the time we get to Ga. for the wedding - he may be up dancing.....wouldn't that be awesome.  Well, not a lot of news from here, but just wanted to drop a note and let everyone know all was well here.  We wish you all a very Merry Christmas.  Wish we could be with all our family this year, but even though we are not please know that you are in our prayers and in our hearts.  We love you all.   Ken and Glynda :)

A great day!!!!!

Wow!  God is oh so Good.  This has been an absolutely awesome day!  We took the van in Mon. for oil/filter change and I had them look at the brakes - they were making noise - you know - that grinding noise!!!!  Well they had to keep it until today.  They also found that it needed new rotor/bearings on the 2 front tires as well as brakes.  I went this morning at 8 to pick it up - no idea how much $$$ it would be.  The young man at the dealership was so nice.  We have had the van  2 years next week and have 28,000 miles.  He was able to get most of the work under warranty and after all was said and done the bill was only $229.85.  Oh my goodness....thank you Jesus!  I was ready to mortgage the house.  Then we had an appt. with the surgeon who is so thrilled with Ken's progress.  Ken even got up on his walker and walked a bit for Dr.Blais.  Ken was released from his care.  We just go back if there is a problem in the future.  Answer to prayers for sure.  Then we made one more stop at Travis Medical.  We had ordered a new seat for Ken's wheelchair and it was in.  While we were there they let us know that Medicare had approved the power chair for Ken - it had been ordered - and we should expect delivery end of January.  I have prayed every nite that God would bless Ken with this chair, and he has!!!!!  Now we will have to have a lift put on the back of the van for the chair.  We will go in the next couple of weeks to look at them and make the arrangements.  I think that the lift is around $3,000 to 5,000.  Wish Medicare paid for this, but alas they dont.  But again we have been blessed that we have had the medical coverage for all of Ken's hospital stays, surgery, home health and physical therapy so paying for the lift is a small price to pay.  We came home just so happy.  It was indeed a good day.  We thought that you would also enjoy some pics.  For Halloween I had made some mini candy bar holders - the mummy, Mr. and Mrs. Frankenstein and Dracula.  For Thanksgiving I made some with turkeys on them and then for Christmas I made some with Santa, reindeer and snowmen.  I need to come up with ideas for St Patty's Day an Easter.  By the end of the year I should have mini candy bar holders for all the holidays.  I will be happy to send the directions to all who would like to make some.  The first picture was of teacher bags I made for Kitty and Lily's teachers.  I filled the bag with a mug I had decorated, peppermint hot chocolate, apple cider, pumpkin or banana bread, and chocolate/peppermint bark snowflakes.  I only had 4 of these to make so they went together pretty fast. The other pics are of Ken at therapy on Tues.  Ken had walked a bit and was about to get on the Total Gym so I got pics of him.  He did 7 min. on the total gym.  Course his legs are still hurting today!  Then last but not least - a picture of Ethel.   We were blessed to have our family here on Sat. for the Ferguson Family Christmas.  We had 12 for lunch, and I think that everyone went home full!  Anyway - before everyone got here I had sat the table and Ethel got up in the chair cause I guess that she was ready for her meal.   I even found out from our nephew - thank you Jason - that we could watch the ESPN bowl games on the computer.  So hoping we can pick up ESPN.com and watch the bowl games....otherwise we will be traveling all over Texas to "visit" our family (just in time to watch the games)  tee hee hee... I also want to send a shout out to my nephew Easton - he took the final exam on Tues. and he will graduate Texas A and M on Friday with a degree in Civil Engineering.   We are all very proud of you Easton.   Well, that brings you up to date from Webberville.  Its overcast and kinda gloomy here.  Only 1 day and I already miss the sun.  We pray that each and everyone of you has a wonderful week and we ask that you Remember the reason for the season......the birth of our Lord and Savior. All our love to each and every one of you.  Ken and Glynda

Happy Monday Morning

Good Monday morning to everyone.  Hope you all had a great weekend.  Ken OD'd on football - Auburn (OMG!!!) SEC champs.  Can life be any sweeter.  Okay, it could if Arkansas was SEC champ.  But at least we are going to the Sugar Bowl.  I have been down with sinuses gone WILD.....I slept all day on Sat. And yes that means I slept thru the Auburn/S. Carolina game.  I literally slept until 1pm Sat. afternoon, got up and showered, laid down on the couch and slept until 6, got up and made a quick dinner and then at 9:30 was back in bed.  Talk about a 100% totally non-productive day, but guess that my body knew more than I did!  Will have to get more done this week./  I had planned to finish teacher gifts and another project Sat. but it will have to wait for another day.  Ken goes to see the prothesis lady today.  He needs the leg socket tweeked a bit today.  We know that with his stump changing sizes and shape over the next year this will be a constant thing tweeking until Oct. or Nov. of next year.  He only has one PT appt. this week so I am gonna try and get a pic or two of him up walking on his walker.  If I do I will post them tomorrow for everyone.  I must also say a huge thank you to the man who designed the rotating waffle maker!!!!!!  OMG - I am so in love.  We keep batter in the fridge and if Ken's sugar is low enough then we have a waffle for breakfast.  This is the kind of waffle maker that hotels now use for their breakfast bars.  In 2-3 minutes breakfast is done and we are enjoying.  I am also about to venture out into a new project.  Stampin Up offers a digital studio - you can make scrapbook pages, cards, calendars, whatever digitally and either print them yourself or have SU print for you.  I got mine this week and yesterday I loaded it all into the computer and all thats left is for me to read (and try to understand) the 128 page "user guide"!!!!  Wish me luck.  Luckily SU also has a section I can go to to watch videos on how to do this!  That's all for now.  Hope everyone has a great week.   Love to all,  Ken and Glynda :)

Its startin' to look like Christmas around here...

I am starting to decorate the house.  Last nite we put up the tree and I got to put on all the new ornaments I made.  Think I ended up with  52 ornaments.  They sure look pretty (if I do say so myself!). On some of them I decorated the outside with snowflakes. This week I have been suffering with sinus.  It has kicked my butt!  I am getting very little sleep at nite cause I just cant breathe.  I am using the vaporizer, swabbed my chest with (my all time favorite) Vick Salve.  We all know Vicks will cure anything!!!!!  I dont feel really bad, just really really tired.  So I am moving slow this week.  I finally got some pics of the ornaments and hope you enjoy. Wish you could see them in person to see how glittery they look.  Click on the picture and you can get a better close up view. Tues. at PT Ken had a great day.  He got up on his walker and walked around the PT dept.  I am so  proud of him.  He did get a blister on his stump, so we go in on Mon. to have the prothestis people take a look at it.  May need a little tweeking.  We had hoped that Ken could just take a step or two to help him transfer, and looky here...he is walking around therapy with his walker.  We go today and maybe one or two days next week and that should be it.  Medicare doesnt care that you are getting stronger and would benefit from more therapy...they just give you so many days and thats it.  Hope everyone has a great day.  Love to all.  Ken and Glynda

Oh no she didnt!

Okay, we have to get children....we are having to many pics of cats on the blog... but Ken just went into the bedroom and he found this mess on the bed...and Ethel is no where to be found!  Guess we are gonna have to start hiding the toliet paper!!!  And this close to Christmas - someone needs to tell her that Santa knows when she has been good (oh wait - she hasn't!) and when she has been naughty ...... tee hee hee.  I hope I have made you laugh...we are still laughing here.   Ken and Glynda

OOOOOH What A Day!

First of all - I am still high from the Arkansas win over LSU!!!!  OMG - it took everything in me to not just scream and yell at the top of my lungs....the "girls" (Lucy and Ethel) are so glad.  When I start to hootin' and a hollerin' they go into hiding.  The Auburn win yesterday and the Razorbacks today - what a weekend.  It has been a great day here.  I was sitting out on the back porch this morning with my coffee when a hummingbird (oh yes, I did say hummingbird) flew up to my feeder.  It was empty (I am late in taking them down this year) so I ran in the house and mixed up a cup of food.  It came back and ate some.  With the 2 freezes we have had the last couple of nites I was so surprised that any were still hanging around.  The cardinals and a few other birds were out on the feeder and Miss Kitty was feelin' like it was Lubys.  I had to keep getting on to her while I was out there.  To get back at me she would go over under the shrubs and roll in the dirt until her beautiful black coat was dirty brown and then just look at me.   I have wanted to show you some of the projects I have been working on and finally got them off the camera and into the computer.  The purses hold 4 full size note cards with envelopes.  They are so cute.  I am working now on smaller purses that will hold 3x3 note cards and envelopes. The box holds 3 Ferrero Rocher Hazelnut chocolates.  The box is part of the card.  The flap on the right side holds a mini card that will say Merry Christmas when I get around to stamping it.  Then I had to show you the party favor box I made for Kitty's 11th birthday party.  Someone - not sure who - took the pixie sticks out of the box before I took the pic!  The box is made up of gorgeous very glittery paper and it just shimmers.  Wish it showed up in the pics.  Just use your imagination.  I also thought that I would enclose a picture of Miss Kitty.  Since Lucy and Ethel get time thought that she should too.   For Christmas I would love to find her a food dish with a low jack on it.  Something keeps coming up to the porch and taking her food dish.  In the last 2 months we have gone through 5 bowls.  I dont leave them out when we go to bed, but whoever or whatever comes up at any time..... Guess I am gonna have to put a kitty cam on the back porch and see what is stealing the bowls.  They dont take the water dish....just the food dish.  The scary thing is is that I can not find them anywhere in the yard so they are going...who knows where.  Well Ken is back in front of the telly - Okla vs Okla State is on so I want see him for several hours!!!!  You wives know what I am talkin' about!!  Can't complain - he put up with my smack talkin' during the Ark. game.  Hope everyone enjoys the rest of their weekend.  Hug your loved ones.    Ken and Glynda :)

A very happy turkey day!

Hello to all - hope you have all had a great day enjoying good food, friends and family. We had all the fixins' so right now we are both OD'd on food.  I will have to wait a while before I even eat dessert.   We are watching the Cowboys/Saints game.  Well, Ken is watching it more than me...I have been on the phone.  Looks like the Cowboys will loose another one!  The cold front has hit Austin.  Feels like winter out there tonite.  I had to finally close all the windows in the house.  I have had them open for a while.  If the weather is nice tomorrow I will go into Bastrop to a Arts/Craft show they are having.  I dont mind cold as long as there is not gale force winds like we are having right now.  I have had several of you say that you are having trouble leaving comments.  Not sure how to fix it so here is what you will need to do:
1.click on Comments at the end of the post
2.type in your comment an then under the comment box you will see comment as - click on this
3. click on name/url - type in your name (dont worry about url) and hit continue button
4. click on post comment

5. comment is posted

Hope this makes it all clear as mud!  I will continue to work on how to send comment to make it easier.

No pics for you today.  Will get some out soon.  All our love to all.  Ken and Glynda :)

I found the pictures!!!

Ok, I found the pictures - I'm still trying to "find" everything since my computer was worked on.  They are probably in the right spots but I am not used to them being there.  Thought that you would like to see Ken giving his new leg a test drive....he's doing great on it.  And I thought that I would give y'all a picture of Ethel.  She is good sometimes....when she is not shredding a box or toliet paper!  We watch Nova and Nature on Sun. evenings.  She loves the shows when they have wild animals on it.  Last Sun. was about dogs, and she was sitting in front of the TV watching the show.  She will sit there for an hour.  We even caught her reaching up to touch the TV... she is to funny.  Enjoy the pics.  Love, Ken and Glynda

Happy Thanksgiving

Dear family and friends:  as I sit here tonite writing to you I am thinking of all that we have to be thankful for.  First of all we are so thankful for each and every one of you.  You have blessed us many times over with your prayers, well wishes, support, encouragement and love.  From the bottom of our hearts we thank you.  We are also so thankful that Ken is on the road to recovery.  He is getting stronger each and every day.  He is wearing the leg and getting use to it, he is having less discomfort each and every day.  We went in last Friday and they tweeked the leg and now it fits so much better.  We will have to go in periodically over the next year as his stump shrinks and reshapes itself.  This has been a really long year for us, but God has blessed us with the strength and faith to endure and face each hurdle that came along.  I am blessed with a husband who was strong enough to face and accept a very big hurdle this year and he has faced it with a lot of grace.  I am oh so very proud of him!  I know that the holidays are here cause last nite I got the Williams-Sonoma catalog in the mail and I came straight in and ordered my Peppermint hot chocolate and handmade vanilla marshmallows!!!!  Yahoo.  Cant wait for them to arrive.  The leaves are turning a golden yellow and all falling to the ground....need to "rake" the driveway tomorrow to get it clean.  I have been spending hours and hours out in the shop...and boy does it look like it!  I can say this for sure - I am not a neat crafter.  I have made 48 glitter glass tree ornaments for our tree, finished up over 50 cards, and I am now making teacher gifts and some other gifts.  I will get some pics and send them out in the next few days.  I have tried to attach pics of Ken's new leg and his test drive but I cant seem to get the pictures to link up with the blog.  Since I had the computer fixed I havent been able to get to my pics. I'll keep trying.   We wish each of you a very happy Thanksgiving.  Take the time to remember family who can not be with you, and love on the ones near.  All our love - Ken and Glynda :)

Ken Update

Today we went and saw one of Dr. Blaise's partners for the spot on Ken's incision.  We will go back on Monday and see Dr. Blaise.  He was out of the office this week.  Dr. Westmoreland gave Ken a script for antibiotic to take.  He felt that it was most likely a suture but he said that it may be that Dr. Blaise has to make a small incksion and open the spot up.  Luckily there is no fever or redness so that is a good thing.  Until we get the all clear from Dr. Blaise Ken will not be able to go back to physical therapy.  Hoping we will know more on Monday.  After we left the office we took my laptop to Best Buys to be seen by the Geek Squad.  Monday it just quit!  There is a virus in there, but it may also be my hard drive.  They will check it out and if it is my hard drive, they will stop and call us.  This means I will have to get a new computer.  May just be a software problem and this they can fix.  So hoping to know something by the end of next week.  I got out in the shop tonite and vaccumed the place up - had to get all the glitter off the tabletop, the floor, chairs, everything!!!!!  Hope all has a great week.  We will let you know more once we see Dr. Blaise on Monday.  Love to all, Ken and Glynda

Ken's New Leg

We went yesterday - Monday - and Ken was fitted for his new leg.  It will take some getting use to for him.  He was told to wear it for an hour or 2 every day to start  and work up in time wearing it.  We go back to the prothesis company on the 19th to see if any tweeking needs to be done.  I think there will be some.  There are a couple of spots that bother Ken and he feels like it is slightly higher than  the other leg.  Right now I am worried about a spot on his incision.  He has healed beautifully, but a spot has arisen on the incision site.  Originally I thought that the spot was where a piece of suture was working through but not sure.  We go to the Dr's on Thurs. to have it checked out.  I took pictures of him yesterday giving the leg a test run, but since I cant get my computer to turn on and I am posting this from Ken's computer I don't have access to my pictures.  It is looking like I may have to call in the Geek Squad to look at the computer....I have been out in the shop - its startin' to look like Christmas out there...not sure if its the paper all over the floor or the glitter that I have E V E R Y W H E R E!!!!!!!!!!!!!  And I do mean everywhere.  I have been making Christmas tree ornaments and the are so glittery.  And so pretty.  For the crafters out there - go to your craft store (mine was Hobby Lobby) and buy a bottle of Beacon's Glitter It Adhesive.  It is a clear glue.  I pour it into a clear glass ornament, swirl it around gently drain out the access, and then pour in my fine glitter, give it a good shake and WOW - a beautiful glass ornament.  I just finished a dozen today.  Hit Hobby Lobby yesterday - got 12 glass ornaments for 2.99 (they were 5.99 and I got them for 1/2 off).  This is a great project for kids (with adult supervision) or for adults who just want to have fun.  I will post pics when I can get my computer to work.  Love to all.  Ken and Glynda  :)

Its starting to feel like fall!!

Wow! Today it feels like fall is arriving to Austin.  I had to get out and about today to run some errands and the themometer in the van read 56 degrees.  Yahoo.  It is a bit rainy and drizzily but thats okay.  We sure do need the rain.  I have a burn pile to burn but its been so dry we have been under a burn ban.  Now I will be able to burn.  That will make it feel more like fall...love the smell of burning leaves.  Ken is still doing his therapy - they really give him a workout but thats okay - it just makes him stronger.  We are waiting to hear about his leg - should be in in another week.  And we are still waiting to hear about a power chair.  Medicare sure takes it time to determine if he qualifies for one.  It will probably be another 3-5 weeks before we get word and then 2 weeks to get the chair if they approve it.  Hope all the kiddos had fun Trick or Treatin' this year.  We loved all the pics that everyone sent.  So much fun to look at.  I dont have pictures to send this time, but wanted to just say hi to everyone and to thank you all for all the prayers and good wishes you have sent our way.  All our love to everyone.   Ken and Glyndea :)

Ethel...you did what?????

OMG...by now you have seen the pictures!  And they speak for themselves.  I walked into our bedroom this evening and look what I found.  Ethel went wild and shredded a roll of TP.  You won't believe how much I pulled out from under the bed. And if that was not enough she drug a towel off the bed onto the floor.  What got me was the fact that when I came into the room she almost seemed to be smiling about what she had done.  She didn't even move a whisker when I went for the camera, turned on the light and started to click away.  As the lights were off,  she did all this damage in the dark.  Guess when she saw what she had done she was pretty proud of herself.  All Ken and I could do was laugh, and throw  away most of the roll of TP as is was not in usable sizes.  LOL.  Enjoy the pics and have a great day.  Glynda and Ken :)

Ken went walking today!

Wow!!! this has been an exciting day!  Ken went in for his 2nd socket fitting today.  At todays visit he had to walk 2-3 steps so they could make sure the socket did not rub anywhere.  Well, he walked to the end of the parallel bars and back, sat down to rest, then got up again and did it again.  They had hoped for 2-3 steps and Ken did about 20!  OMG!!!!  Toooooo exciting.  He just makes me prouder every day.  He is working so hard and it shows.  I took pictures but I tried to take a video of his walking with the digital camera, but guess I did it wrong or else I would send you the video.  If I can figure out how to get it from camera to computer and then see if it is indeed a video I will post it for everyone to see.  But hope you enjoy the "stills"  anyway.  Most of the weight was borne by his arms but still....he was walking.  They were gonna send off the socket today and when it comes back it will be his "new leg".  It should be in around the 1st-2nd week of Nov.  Ken started his out patient therapy yesterday.  It wore him out.  Took us almost 40 minutes to get him into the van.  He was just to weak to push himself up and the van was parked on a slight decline so that made it even harder.  Finally we just said to heck with it and he slid into the back of the van and sat on the floor for the drive home.  Once we got home he laid down and slept for almost 3 hrs. until I woke him up for dinner.  He was so pooped!   I finally finished all of the halloween projects and got everything delivered yesterday and today.  Now I am working on party favor boxes for Kitty's 11th birthday party.  She is having only girls so the boxes are very pink (her favorite color) and oh so verrrrrrry glittery.  Everything in the living room is sparkly since I sat in there last nite while I cut out the boxes.  Will post pics of them as soon I get them finished.   Give a big hug to those you love,   Ken and Glynda

Ken's first fitting

Today was an exciting day.  Ken went for his first socket fitting.  The socket is the portion of the prothesis that fits up over his right thigh.  A couple of adjustments had to be made- you can see the red markings in the pictures.  Tomorrow it will go back to the prothesis manufacture for a new socket to be made.  When it comes in we go for another fitting.  Any needed adjustments will be made and the process starts over again.  If it fits perfect then when it goes back the actual leg will be made.  Ken could have his leg by Thanksgiving, but for sure by Christmas.  We took pictures of his fitting today and thought that we would share them with you. The metal post and rubber disc at the bottom are not part of the leg.  They are only used to test the socket while Ken is standing.  This is a really neat system and will make transferring oh so much better! Look at him standing up on the parallel bars.  Doesnt he look wonderful.  I am so proud of how well he is doing.  He just keeps getting stronger every day.  We start next week going every Tues and Thurs for 6 wks. for out patient therapy.  They gave him 2 pages of therapy to do at home.  He is taking the opportunity to push to a standing position at home as often as he can.  The therapist was really surprised with all we had at home and how far Ken was just 2 months post surgery.  He is so determined to get better - and it is showing.  We are enjoying the fall weather.  If it doesnt rain on Fri. I need to get out and cut limbs off the pecan tree.  I bought a electric chain saw.  It is small enough for me to handle.  So by the end of the weekend I should have a huge burn pile!!!!!  I am gonna loose quite a few pecans but as the branches are on the ground and several are broken off I need to do some pruning.  Hope everyone has a great week and weekend.   Ken and Glynda

FYI - the girl in the blue scrubs is Laura.  She is the prothesis specialist that has been working with us since the surgery.  She has done a great job fitting Ken and getting him all the supplies that he has needed.  She is an absolute doll.

What a Saturday!

Wow - around here Saturday was certainly a nail biter of a day!  I am an avid (if not rabid) Univ. of Arkansas fan.  Ken is an Auburn fan.  So yesterday since they were playing each other this was a house divided to the max.  I don't know if any of you watched the game, but oh my gosh....a total of 108 points were scored in the game.  Unfortunately, my team lost.  Again we fell apart in the 4th quarter.  But with a final score of 63-45 you know it was a heck of a game.  I tried to keep my screeming down to a gentle roar....the cats gave up on me - left the living room and went to the bedroom to get away from me.  Ken was a gracious winner...but I can assure you that had Arkansas won....I would not have been. (tee hee hee).  Then to finish out the day NASCAR was on ABC so we got to watch the race.  I tell you....I was a couch potato for the better part of the day.  It was so wonderful.  I got out for about 30 minutes and went for a walk down our road.  My little neighbor across the street - Savanah who is 3 - joined me and walked with me.  Since I walk pretty slow right now whe kept up with me and talked my ear off.  She is so cute.  She is afraid of Ken.  With his white beard she thinks he is Santa Claus.  Her parents have been trying to get her is give up her binkie and her daddy told her that Santa was gonna come and take it away if she did not give it up.  Now when she sees Ken she just says - No Santa -- No Santa.   We will start a new chapter this week with Ken's recovery.  Tues. he goes to Out Pt. therapy  in Bastrop.  He is scheduled for 3 times a week for 4 weeks.  Know that this is really gonna help him physically and get him stronger so when he gets his new leg he will be ready for it.  Then on Wed. we go for his first fitting of the leg.  We are both excited and nervous at the same time.  They tell us he will have his leg by Christmas but may have it as early as Thanksgiving.  What a great Christmas present this will be.  I have finally finished all the Halloween projects.  I am now ready to start on Thanksgiving, but first I am making 15 birthday party favors for Kitty's 11th birthday. I volunteered to do them and  I have some ideas already, but have to see what her "theme" is.  Know she is going roller skating, and this year MooMoo will NOT be out on the floor skating.  The old hip just will not let me.  Hope everyone is enjoying this wonderful fall weather like we are.  Sitting out on the back porch every morning has been so great.  Better go for now.  Remember to hug those you love.  Ken and Glynda :)

Happy Monday

Hi everyone:  hope you had a great weekend.  Ken was in bed most of the weekend.  His strength has seemed drained the last few days.  He spent most of Friday, all of Saturday and most of Sunday in bed.  Today, he did get up early and has been up all day so maybe his body just needed a rest.  The therapist will be here in about an hour and she will put him through his paces.  Saturday was a great day for me.... Arkansas beat A&M.  Alabama lost - can you believe it!  It would have been a perfect weekend if my NASCAR driver had won but alas he had a bad day. But Ken's driver - Tony Stewart did win.   The big day will be next Saturday when Auburn is beat by Arkansas - oh I mean when Auburn plays Arkansas!!!!!  Depending on how the game goes and who wins will determine who is speaking to who come nightfall.  LOL.  I am gonna try and figure out how to set up the blog site so it will automatically notify you all when I post.  Just havent figured it out yet.  I did change the color and style so maybe I can figure out how to send update alerts.  If anyone knows....let me know.  Fall is gently coming in - kitties are getting fluffy and sleeping a lot.....I mean afterall they do have hectic and busy lives!  Ken will start physical therapy as outpatient next week.  Know that will really take its toll on his strenght but also know it will help build his strenght up.  And we cant wait until we hear back from the prothesis company - should be 2-3 weeks for the first trial fitting.  Hope everyone has a great week and enjoys the beautiful fall weather.  Give a big hug to those you love,   Ken and Glynda

Just had to share...

We all need a good laugh - okay, yesterday I wasn't laughing but today I find it funny!  I was on the computer and had to step away for a moment.  When I returned I found Lucy "using" the computer.  If you will look at the pic you will notice that the screen images are all UPSIDE DOWN!!!!!  I guess that she must have hit every key on the keyboard.  When I came back into the room she hopped up and proceeded to sit her butt on the keyboard.  Well, I had to call the Dell Help Line (in India!!) and have them tell me how to right the screen images and then I had to call them back cause all the words and images were now the size of a pin head.  I can tell you that these old eyes could not read it.  So now I will just have to make sure I dont leave the computer on and unattended!  We have tried to raise "good kitties" but alas it seems we have not.  Kitties - you just gotta love 'em.  Hope you get a laugh.  Love to all.   Ken and Glynda :)

What a day!

To say this has been a wild day....well, that is putting it mildly!  This morning I decided to open the windows in our bedroom and enjoy the cool fresh outdoors air.  What I forgot was that on one window - the screen was down!  So, I was in the living room straighting up when I heard the loudest YOW from Lucy (the inside kitty) and Miss Kitty (the outside kitty).  At first I just thought that they had come nose to nose thru the screen....but when I got in the bedroom I realized Lucy was outside and the screen was gone!!!!! I paniced, shut the window so Ethel would not get out, ran out the back door to find Lucy and Miss Kitty nose to nose on the porch.  Lucy ran off, luckily she ran to the bedroom window and tried to jump back into the house, but since momma had shut the window she merely hit the glass.  So I ran back inside - threw open the window and as she was on the ledge, she flew back into the house.  Her tail was the size of a tree trunk and she hid under the bed for several hours.  Course I think that it was several hours before my heart stopped pounding and racing.  The morning settled back into a normal routine.  Ken bathed and got dressed so we could go to the surgeon's office for our post op visit.  Today he had trouble sliding from bed to wheel chair, so he had me put the gait belt around him and give a tug.  I "tugged" to hard and he slid out of the slide board and right onto the floor.  Luckily he slid in slo mo so he did not get hurt.  We had to call 911 and have the fire dept. come out.  They sent 4 burly guys out and the got him up and back into his chair.  Since we were ready to leave for the docs they got him into the van for me.  They were so sweet.  I kept apologizing for having to call for a non emergency like this but they kept telling me this is what they are there for and to never worry about calling them.  Last week Ken was transferring so well and was even able to stand up using the walker.  This week he has not been able to.  We are not sure what is going on.  He doesnt feel like anything has changed but he just doesnt have the arm or leg strength this week.  Monday he tried 6 times to get up and into the van and he could not.  So he slid off the chair and into the back of the van (behind the passenger front seat) and just sat on the floor to his appt.  And when the therapist was here yesterday he could not push himself up to stand.  Luckily he was able to stand, pivot and sit in the van this afternoon.  The surgeon wants him to stop home therapy and start out patient therapy next week.  We will call the PT facility in Bastrop tomorrow and set up an appointment.  We also got the go ahead for the prothesis.  So this afternoon Ken had a plaster cast made of the stump.  In several weeks we will go back for the first fitting of the mold and then there will be 2 or 3 more after that to fine tune the mold and then the prothesis will be made.  We will have it by Christmas but we may actually have it by Thanksgiving.  Ken is excited and looking forward to it.  Well, thats our day.  I am happy to say that this evening has been quiet and oh so very uneventful.   On a side note, I have had several of you ask how to post a comment.  I am not sure so I am looking into it and as soon as I find out I will let you know. If anyone out there knows how...please share the info with me.   Love to all.   Ken and Glynda

Lovin' this weather!

WOW!! fall is arriving in Webberville and I am absolutely lovin' it.  Yesterday morning I was out on the backporch with Miss Kitty enjoying my cup of coffee and I could tell that it was a'gettin colder.  I sat down in the lawn chair and my bare leg hit the cooooooold metal frame and I KNEW that it was 43 degrees.....trust me, there was no doubt.I was able to join my dear friend Tina W. for breakfast in downtown Manor and spend some wonderful time visiting with her.  I got to work some more on my Halloween projects.  I am enclosing pics of the last 2 projects.  I have made 50 of the test tube candy treats.  If any of you would like some of the test tubes I have plenty (had to buy 250).  The other project is a mini candy bar holder.  I saw these on a blog site I love, love, love. Its http://www.chicknscratch.typepad.com/.  This is a project she did last year and they are oh so quick and easy to do.  I felt that Frankie needed a girlfriend so I revamped him and made Miss Frankie.  Sorry for the glare on the pic.  Took several and couldnt get one that didnt have the glare.  What you can't see is that I spritzed them with shimmer paint so they are all glitzy. And I couldnt resist including a picture of the kitties.  They had disappeared for a while and I found them in bed all cute and innocent - this was after I found them on the kitchen cabinet while we were having breakfast.  I am not sure what they are looking at but it surely has their attention. I guess that after they got in trouble they decided to hide out for a while.  Ken is doing well.  Right now we are waiting for home therapy to come and give him his work out.  I have had to start using a cane when I am out and about.  Don't like it but since I have fallen twice in the house my orthopedic surgeon said I needed to use one.  So I found a lite blue metallic one and now I need to add some bling to it.  Thinking of going to Hobby Lobby or Michaels an get some of those press on rhinestones and bling it up.   Hope everyone has a wonderful day and take time to hug those you love.   Glynda

A quiet Sunday afternoon

Hi everyone:  I am enjoying a quiet afternoon today.  Ken slept in this morning - finally got him up at 10 - he just didn't want to wake up today!  So I enjoyed a quiet cup of coffee on the back porch with Miss Kitty and had some Sunday morning quiet time.  Ken is doing well.  We go tomorrow and have a mobility evaluation.  We are wanting to get him a power chair and Medicare requires this face to face eval with a physical therapist.  In getting ready for it we had Brad come out and pour 2 access ramps.  One from the sidewalk up to the porch and then from the porch up to the front door.  If we are able to get Ken the power chair these ramps will make it oh so much easier to get in and out of the house.  Don't you think Brad did a great job.  We have already had the "chair" fitting and picked out all the options for the chair - its like buying a car and Ken chose fire engine red....will not loose him in a crowd!  If we are able to get it then we will have a lift put on the back of the van to carry the chair so that means no more lifting his manual wheel chair into and out of the van - YAHOO!  I am just about finished with my last 2 Halloween projects.  Should have pics of them by Thursday.  Then I can start on Thanksgiving cards and table decorations.  It feels so great getting to putter in the shop again.  I didn't realize how much I missed it.  I am hoping to get Ken to go Friday to Fredericksburg for the Texas Mesquite Art Show.  It runs Fri. thru Sun.  Everything thing there is made of mesquite or I think it has to be at least 80% mesquite.  There is always beautiful things there.  Ken needs to have an outing - I am just having a hard time getting him to get out except to go to the doctors.  So if you are looking for something fun to do - go to Fredericksburg.  Yesterday was a football day here for Ken.  The highlight of the day was the Alabama vs Florida game.  Then this afternoon we listened to the Nascar Race and my driver ' GREG BIFFLE' won.....OMG .... I was so excited.  Its his 2nd win of the year so I was beyond happy.  So it has indeed been a good weekend for sure.   Hope everyone has a great week and remember if you are close - come and play.... the shop is always open.   Love to all,  Glynda  :)

What an awesome day!

OMG!!!! this has been the best day ever.  Ken gets stronger and stronger every day and today he proved it. The therapist was here and using his walker she had Ken push himself up from his wheelchair and stand using the walker.  Not only did he do it once, but he did it 3 times......I was so proud of him I almost cried.  I had to get a picture of him standing.  I also got to spend some time in the shop.  I made these fun little milk carton carriers with 2 mini milk cartons. The are filled with candy.  I used the mini milk carton die from SU and then made the carrier to hold them.  If you would like to make the carrier, let me know and I will be happy to send the directions.  They are super-de-duper easy to make - that is once you finally get all the measurements right.  Took me 5 times to finally get it right!  I found this great glitter paper at Hobby Lobby and it just screamed Halloween.  The paper I used for the milk cartons is SU.  Hope you enjoy the pics.  And again - doesnt Ken look great standing up!!!!!  Love to all.
