The end is near!!!

Yes - the end is near.  The new floors are in, the painters finished tonite (Sunday).  the movers arrive tomorrow as do our appliances and new chair/ottoman.  I am hoping that the sofa arrives on Wed. which means we will have a sofa by Christmas.  If not, well, I do have 16 folding chairs!!!!!  We are planning on having the new walk in shower installed on Wed/Thurs and then on Fri. we can have the pedestal sink and new toliet installed in the master bath.  After the furniture is in I will take pics and post them.  I went with a really pretty colors.  I choose Sherwin Williams Breezy (the lite color) and Labrodite (the darker color) for the house.  I really have stepped out of my "comfort zone" as far as color is concerned.  My sister really helped me with the color choices.  Our kitties have done well with the move.  Miss Kitty is in the same room right now with Lucy and Ethel.  I put her in the really big dog kennel (made for a golden retrevier size dog) at nite. Not sure I trust them not to have a tussell if I am not there.    Lucy and Ethel just plan ignore her - they make no eye contact.... there have been a few growls and a couple of paw jabs  from Lucy towards Miss Kitty but thats all.  I dont know how it will work out when they have free range of the house but we will see.  We plan on spending our first nite in our new home on Tues.  Wed. will be 3 weeks here and we are ready to check out of the hotel....but must admit I will miss HGTV!!!!!, housekeeping and the breakfast buffet every morning.  But it will be oh so nice to sleep in my bed again.  I am sitting here watching the final hour of Survivor.  I want Coach to win....but since the jury doesnt want to vote for anyone!!!!! should be an interesting final.  Once we check out from the hotel we will not have internet for a while.  We havent got one signed up yet for the house - so the only way to get hold of us is my cell -512 657 0660 or home number 903 561 8613.  Since I will not be posting until after Christmas Ken and I wish each and everyone of you a blessed and joyous Christmas and ask that we all remember the Reason for the Season....to celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior.   We love and miss you all.   Ken and Glynda  :)

We got moved!

Dear Friends and Family:  well, we got moved on Wednesday.  Ethel and Lucy were sedated for the whole trip and Miss Kitty, well, she must have known that we were moving cause she was ready.  I had brought her into the house on Wed. while I was doing last minute things.  When I went in to get her she was already laying asleep in her crate.  She meowed a few times and got quiet for the whole trip.  We droped them off at the house before we went to closing.  Went back to check on them that evening.  While at the house Ethel had a seizure which really scared the ### out of me.  She seems to be doing okay now.  She is still really freaked/stressed out - not adjusting like Lucy and Miss Kitty.  We are watching her really close.  There is a vet about 5 miunutes from the house and I plan to stop by and see them tomorrow to see if we need to bring her in.  We are still at the hotel.  Will probably be here for at least 2 more weeks.  The floor guy starts tomorrow and should be done by Thurs. and then hoping the painter can start asap.  Should take them 3-5 days to paint.  Then we can start to move in the furniture and finally live in our house!!!!!  My sister in law Margaret is in town so she helped me unpack the kitchen on Thurs.  Then my sister/ personal interior decorator came in Fri. to help me unpack.  We got out Sat. and hit 11 - yep - 11 stores.  Bought a new sofa and chair for the living room.  Beckie has encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone and have chosen some really pretty colors for the house.  We had the living room to hallway door, master bedroom door and the master bath door widened to 36" to make Ken getting thru them easier.  We also had the toliet and vanity removed.  Once the new floor is in we will put in new toliet and a pedestal sink.  Then we just have to wait for the new walk in shower to be put in.  We still have to come back to Webberville so that we can empty out Ken's shop.  That should take a day or 2.  Lots to do over the next 4-6 weeks, but then we will fell somewhat settled in.  Missing all our friends and family in Austin.  Hope everyone will have a wonderful Christmas season and enjoy the time with your family.   Love to all Ken and Glynda :)

Its a wild time at the Moon household!

Dear family and friends:  Can't believe that it has been almost a month since I last posted.  Life here has been extremely WILD the last 4-6 weeks.  We are moving to Tyler (actually the Noonday community) Nov. 30.  We have been blessed by God in oh so many ways.  We sold our house and never listed it with a realtor.  A nurse I knew from working at Seton - her mom is moving back to the Austin area and she came out, liked our house and bought it.  The movers are here on the 28th to load up the furniture, we close with her on Nov. 29 then the next day we head to Tyler and in the afternoon close on the new house.  It will be fast and furious for a few days but think its gonna be the hardest on our 3 kitties.....talk about being traumatized!!!!!  Then the first 10 days we will have new flooring put in, bath remodel, painting and then we will be able to have furniture unloaded.  We had first thought we would just rough it at the house but with all the work to be done we are just gonna stay at the hotel for the first 10 days.  I didnt think we would need to repaint right away, but when we were in Tyler yesterday measuring for flooring, I got to see the walls after pictures were down and some furniture out....needs to be redone.  So my sister (aka my interior designer) helped me with wall color choices and floor choices.  In the spring/summer we will have outside painted and new kitchen counter top installed.  We will have 1.5 acres so lots of room to spread out.  There is a really nice pond on the property....albeit a dry pond right now...but maybe someday we will have enough rain to fill it back up.  After we get settled in I will take pictures and post, but until then probably not a lot of pictures.  We have been using PODS to load/store all the boxes and stuff from the house.  Once they are filled they pick it up and bring out a new one.  Then the pods are delivered to the new house on the dates we have selected.  So first 2 pods will be delivered on Dec. 1 and the 3rd one delivered on Dec. 6 with movers there on Dec 9 to unload furniture.  Its bee easy for me to pack up a few boxes, load on the dolly and zip them out.  The house is about 1/2 or a little more packed (not including furniture) and so is my shop.  So will fill up the new pod that was delivered today over the next few weeks.  I am really purging thru our stuff, but still....OMG, where did all this stuff come from!!!!! Someone has been sneaking into our home and stashing their stuff... Yesterday we had new garage doors installed.  Really makes the front of the house look so nice.  Know Junell (new home owner) will enjoy them.  Last nite Mr. Moon had some excitement.  Since I was in Tyler he went outside to feed Miss Kitty.  He went out on the power chair and then he could not get back in the house.  He was outside from 7 to almost 9.  He finally got in but while trying to get back in he had to make sure the 2 inside kitties did not get out.  I felt helpless in Tyler and the neighbors were out last nite, so glad Ken was able to get back in.  If he had been in his manual chair there would have been no problems....lesson learned!  Shall close for now.  Over the next week I will try and post update on packing/moving status.  Love to all....Ken and Glynda :)

Rain, Rain....we had rain!!!!!

Kitty spent her 3 day weekend with us and while here we made soap.  Here is a sampling of her work.  We got a kit at Hobby Lobby, then added additional fragrance and speciality mold.  We did ovals, turtles, frogs, purses, hi heels, and flip flops.  Super easy and she did a great job.  Think that we are going to make some for Christmas gifts for her friends and she wants to make some for her birthday goodie bags. We did some in clear glycerine with color added and some with white glycerine with color added for a totally different look.  We even made some with 2 or 3 different color layers.

We made chocolate chip cookies for dessert Sat. nite.  Decorated them for Halloween.....spooky huh!

Kitty found a glass lantern in the craft drawer so she painted a fall scene - leaves and pumpkins.  She was in a craftin' mood this weekend.

Here she is modeling her first attempt at making a skirt.  She did the straight sewing, I did the elastic waist.  Think she did a super great job.

Well, it was so exciting when we actually had a day of rain.  It very briefly sprinkled on Sat. but Sun. OMG - it rained on and off all day.  We got a great soaking and there is even some traces of green grass in the yard.  With luck I will even have to mow in a few weeks.  We had a lovely trip to Tyler and had a good visit with Ken's sister Margaret - you may remember her from the last post - the one in the hula skirt.....(sorry Margaret, couldnt resist) and a good visit with my parents.  Even got to visit with our niece that lives in Van and went to her garage sale.  Got some great counted cross stitch pattern books.  Now to find some quiet time to do some stitchin'.  Getting ready to work on Kitty's birthday invitations for her 12th birthday and come up with an idea for her party favors.  Hard to believe that she will be 12 this year....course hard to believe that her sister Madi will be 15 in Jan.  Weren't they just born!!!!!  My favorite time of year is near.  Love the fall season.  Better get busy now and think about Thanksgiving and Christmas!  Love to all - remember to hug those close to you.  Ken and Glynda :)

A beautiful Georgia wedding

Here are the bride and groom - Billy and Mitzi Allen - both were oh so beautiful!

Here are the proud parents of the groom - Billy and Mary Allen - Mary is Ken's sister

This is a view of the ocean that was the backdrop for the wedding - absolutely wonderful

The minister is Mitzi's brother - he did the service in English and Hawaiian - He did a beautiful service

Here is the "cake box" I made for everyone to put their envelopes/cards in -  I was very happy with the way it turned out - the roses are so pretty

Here is my sister in law, Margaret, (in the pink top) doing the hula.  Part of the reception were hula dancers and at one point they asked guests to get up and join in.

At the reheresal dinner on Friday nite we had bar-b-que and a Low Country Boil.  There was oysters, and the boil consisted of corn on the cob, potatoes, shrimp and sausage.  Ken was in hog heaven with the oysters.

SLURPPPPPPPPPPPPP!  Thats the sound Ken was making when we was eating his oysters.  I wish I had sound to go along with this pic!

Lil' Billy (the groom) has a house right on the marsh.  Here is a picture of the marsh - lots of wild critters live out here!!! big and little  (big as is alligagtors!)

I love the way moss hangs from the trees here.....

Mary made the groom's cake and the wedding cake.  Each layer is a different flavor.....it was oh so beautiful!

Here is the groom's cake.  Since Billy and Mitzi hike he wanted hiking boots for his cake.  These are exact replicas of his boots - size and everything.  The boots were made out of brownies covered with black fondant.  Its all made from chocolate, brownie or red velvet cake - so you can (and we did) eat it all - even the rocks, dirt, leaves and pine needles (found on any trail) were made of chocolate.  Talk about a talented sister in law!

I made 50 invitations for a15th birthday celebration for one of Madi's BFF's.  Her theme is pumpkin and roses - her birthday is Oct. 31 and her favorite flower is the rose.... wish you could see how they shimmer....spritzed them with shimmer mist.

Wow - I sure did have lots of pictures for you to see.  We had a wonderful trip to Ga.  Our route took us thru La, Miss, Ala, Fla, and Ga.  Have to tell you - being back home....back to reality is hard.  It is oh so nice having someone come in and make the beds, clean the room and give you fresh towels....plus having breakfast made for you.  Ok, lets just say, I could learn to live this way!! Mary and  Billy put on a great rehersal dinner and the wedding....OMG beautiful.  We felt just like we were in Hawaii.  The Kings and Prince Resort in St. Simon's Island was the location of the wedding.  With the wedding outside the backdrop was of the ocean.  The bride and groom stood under palm trees, a gentle breeze off the ocean and hawaiian music softly playing in the background.  The reception was wonderful, lots of food and drink.  I can truly say that So. Georgia really knows how to put on one heck of a wedding.  We had a neighbor's son come over and feed the cats instead of taking them to the vets.  The inside girls....okay, they shunned us for a day after we got back but they are over it by now.  Miss Kitty the outside kitty gave me love as soon as we got back....at least someone was glad to see us.  Ken is adjusting to not having his fill of seafood every day.  He really OD'd while we were on our trip.  We had beautiful weather and boy oh boy is everything green in Fla and Ga - made me so jealous over the thick, soft to walk on grass.  We are heading out next week to Tyler to visit my folks and visit with Ken's sister Margaret.  So we will be hitting the road on Tues.  See everyone when we get home.  Love to all - Ken and Glynda :)

Happy Labor Day

Here is why the fires are so wild here....this is a pic of our back yard....or what is left of it.  The front looks like this as well.  We are watering only once a week, but so hot and dry....not helping!
These 2 pictures are of the fire smoke coming from Bastrop.  I was sitting out on our back porch when taking these pictures.

The helicopters were flying overhead hauling water to dump on the fires.  I snapped these from the porch.  If you click on the pics you can get a close up view

On a lighter note...here is Ethel taking a nap with her dad....he's asleep in his chair and she is asleep on the floor.

And then we have "Bad Kitty".  Lucy thinks it is ok, and actually her place to lay on the table, on top of the paper while I am having my coffee and trying to read the paper.  She doesn't even budge when I get the camera out and start clicking away!  Is this because she is a bad kitty.....or because I am a bad momma!!!!!!

And lastly we have Miss Kitty.  She was out on the porch while I was taking some pics and I caught her relaxing.  She is such a sweetie....beautiful black fur and golden yellow eyes......

Good Tuesday morning to one and all.  I hope that you all had a wonderful, relaxing and safe Labor Day weekend.  The Moon household was quiet - which was very nice.  I had my friend Tina come over on Mon. and we played out in the shop and learned a new project so we can get a jump start on gift making.  I also want to thank you all for the calls of concern regarding the fire in Bastrop.  It has been really bad, but we are safe.  I have not heard the news today to know if it is under control.  The news comes on at 11 so I will be listening.  As of 10:30 last nite it was not under control - as reported it was 0% contained.  There were so many fires around here and in the state of Texas.  the news reported that over the weekend firefighters had responded to 63 separate fires in Texas.  With everything so dry here.....just one tiny spark and a fire is raging.  You saw the pics above that were taken Mon. afternoon.  It looked like the whole city of Bastrop was on fire.  The news reported last nite that 25,000 acres had been burned up to then and 476 homes had been burned.  Schools were closed in Bastrop and several in the Austin and surrounding area due to fires.  We are getting ready for our trip to Ga.  So excited.  Our neighbor's son is coming over everyday to take care of kitties.  He won't ever see them, but he can feed them and clean out litter box.  I like having him come that way someone is in the house everyday making sure all is ok.  Hope everyone has a great week.  To our family....will see you next week!  Hug those near.   Love, Ken and Glynda

Raccoons - true little bandits !

Here is the project I have been working on for a while for our nephew's wedding next month.  After the wedding I will show you the full pic.  For now....just a tease.

I bought a youth bed from our neighbor - belonged to his dad who passed away 2 yrs. ago at 100 - so these are really old.  Manuel cut the foot board in half and welded it to the headboard and made a bench for me.  I cleaned it up - lightly sanded cause I wanted to keep the rusty antique look, then sprayed it with a clear acrylic to prevent any further rusting.  Really looked good after I finished.

Here is the finished bench.  I covered foam cushions and then I covered the plywood with batting and fabric to finish off the seat then made 3 pillows for the back.

Here is the momma raccoon eating the kitty food I put out.

Momma is guarding the food!  Cause she is not sharing.  The 3 babies were out by the trees and I could not get their pics.

Well, I have now seen it all!  Miss Ethel was growling at the window so I looked out and the raccoons were back.  We havent seen them for several days.  There was a momma and 3 babies.  I went outside and sat on the porch.  They did not run away. They were to busy eating the bird seed that was on the ground.  Then I saw the momma climb up the tree, go out onto the branch, and procede to pull up the bird feeder by the cord and once she had it she tipped it over to pour out the seed onto the ground.  I could not believe my eyes.  I clapped my hands and told them no! and she finally came down.  I came in and got some cat food which she is eating, but she is NOT sharing it with her 3 babies....they are eating the bird seed.  Ken is sitting at the door watching them, better than TV.  Looks like now one of the babies is up eating the kitty food I put out for them.  They are such fun to watch, picking up food with their hands and being oh so dainty about it.  For those who live in Tx. the heat wave is not news but for our friends and family out of state - Sun. reached 112 in Austin and today a mere 109!  Ah, a cold front!!!!!!  I was out in my shop Sun. afternoon  and couldnt figure out why I was sweatin' but when I came in and heard it was 112 I figured out why my little window unit just couldnt keep up with the heat outside.  The news was saying tonite that this could go on for another 1-2 yrs.....so please pray for rain and some cooler temps for Texas.  We need it so bad.  The only advantage is that there are NO bugs outside.....zip, zero, nada.  We did get some rain Thurs - about 10 min. worth.  Not a lot but enough to keep the temp to double digits only......Yahoo.  The pics in the paper are pretty scary when you see lakes and streams dry, and cattle dying.  With not end in sight it really scares me.  Ken goes in Fri. for what we hope is his final fitting of new prothesis.  If it is, then he will leave the leg and they will put the "skin" covering on it to make it look more like a leg.  That process should take a week or 10 days.  During that time he will just wear his old leg.  We are so thrilled.  Will send photos when he gets the final leg.  Love to all our friends and family.  Hug those close....Ken and Glyda :)

Summer's winding down!!!!

Sunday I was out on the porch feeling down....just lots on my mind when I looked up and saw this beautiful rainbow....boy, does God know how to let us know he is there and is there to help us with our burdens - all we have to do is be willing to stop, look, listen and open our hearts.  Lord, thank you for the reminder.

For all of you who swear we don't have cats .... Tues. nite Lucy had stollen the straw out of Lily's drink and was playing with it.  So Lily got on the floor and she and Lucy were playing with it.  Boy is she coming a long way.  Course Ethel hid under the bed for 3 days!!!!  Didnt see her until today - Friday.

Lily is working on her quilt  - sewing the strips together

Here is Lily and her finished quilt.  Dont you just love the bright colors.  She did an absolutely awesome job.  She backed it with a solid hot pink material.

Here is a close up of Lily's fabric.  She picked it all out.  I did not give advice or help her choose.  All I did was write the check!!!  She has such a great eye for color.  She told me she wanted fabric with movement....now where does a 9 yr. old learn about fabric with "movement"?  She picked out the bold print and then picked out the other 3 to go with it.

We also spent some time out in the shop playing with the Cricut.  We used the Sweet Treats cartridge and she made 2 sundaes.  Wish you could see them in real life so you could see all the sparkles and glitter.....looked good enough to eat.

Hello friends and family - WOW - can you believe that school starts on Monday!  Where has the summer gone.  Wasn't school just out.  Lily came out this week for the final summer visit.  We sewed while she was here.  You saw the great quilt she did already.  I mean - OMG - didn't she do an awesome job.  And I so love her color combinations.  Now Kitty wants to make a dress....think I will start her on a skirt first.  As everyone in Texas we are oh so praying for rain.  It is so dry here and now it is so scary....when will the water run out.  Areas around us are already running dry as are counties all over Texas.  We all need to pray for rain and for the people who are now going without water.  The birds here are ravenous about food and water.  I fill the bird bath once a day and sometimes I fill it a 2nd time.  Our little raccoon is very crafty these days.  Last Fri. nite - late -  I put out 7 pounds of bird seed in 3 feeders and on Sat. morning they were all empty.  Guess it was the raccoon who tipped the feeders enough so they dumped out all the food.  Then Tues. morning I went out to the back porch to feed Miss Kitty and the raccoon had ripped open the bag of seed and ate it and the seeds were all over every where....looked like a war zone.  Took me 30 min. to clean it all up!  Today I went and got more food, filled up the feeders and before I came in tonite I put them up - hopefully out of the raccoon's reach!  Ken had his final check up on his right eye - cataract surgery was a huge success and he has healed great.  So now we are going to schedule his left eye for sometime in Oct.  Then both eyes will be good.  Love to all of you.  Hug those you love.   Ken and Glynda  :)

Happy Saturday

Ethel was found sound asleep on the floor.  Guess she was just tired out....from what....I don't know.  Now take a look at Lucy... these two must have been active all nite...cause they were dead to the world in the morning.

Doesn't Lucy look like she is just about to melt down the front of the sofa!  What it must be like to be oh so relaxed!  She has truly entered the next world.....

Hello friends and family:  WOW - where has summer gone!!!!!  When I broke my foot in Jan. knew that I would not be able to get yard clean up done so thought, no problem, I'll do it in the summer.  Ok, so who knew that it would be triple digits all summer!!!!!  Now I tell myself...will do it in the fall.  At this rate I will be saying "I'll do it in the spring" before to long.  Oh well, no one out here has any yard this year.  The drought is really hitting us hard.  I am having to fill the birdbath at least twice a day since the birds are draining it dry.  They are going through the water and food oh so fast.  My raccoon may have gotten into 2 of the feeders last nite.  2 of them hang a little low and I guess if they stand up on hind feet they can tip them over and pour out all the seeds.  This morning I found 2 of them completely empty and hanging to one side.  What seed not eaten was on the ground.  I guess that raccoons would eat bird seed??? Just dont know.  But since I filled all 3 feeders last nite and 2 were hanging over and empty they are the only critters I can think of that would do it.  I have one that comes up to the porch to eat Miss Kitty's food so I have to make sure not to leave it out there.  A couple of times the raccoon has scratched at the living room window to get my attention and I have taken a small cup of food out and poured it on the ground.  Yes I know, if you feed they will stay, but with this drought I feel sorry for them.  We are going to Tyler next week for 4 days so guess the coons will have a feast since I will be leaving out extra food for Miss Kitty.  We have lost most of our yard even thought I am watering....just toooooo darn hot.  Right now I am praying for a hurricane to form off  the coast just so we can get some rain!  Ken had his cataract surgery and after 2 post op visits is doing fine.  He feels he sees better now in his right eye.  He will still have to wear glasses due to his astigmatism and thats ok.  He will probably go in Oct-Dec and have his left eye done.  We go back to see Dr.Dai on the 19th and Ken will get a new prescription for the right eye lens in his glasses.  We are getting ready to take out big road trip in Sept.  I am so excited.  In the next few weeks we will sit down and plan out the route and where we want to stop.  Think we will take 4 days to get there so we can stop along the way and play tourist.  I bought an antique metal twin bed headboard and footboard from our neighbor.  The bed belonged to his dad who died several years ago so they are at least 90+ years old.  I wanted a bench made out of it, so Manuel cut the footboard in half and welded them to the headboard to make arms.  Then he put a plywood base in it for the seat.  I have gotten fabric to make pillows and cushions for the bench and then they it will go on the porch.  Manuel kept one of the beds and as soon as his wife saw mine she told him she wanted one to.  So last Sun. Manuel made 2 benches.  Ken got his new permanent leg last week and he will wear it for a couple of weeks then we go back for final review.  If no tweeking needs to be done, then the leg will have the permanent "skin" covering put over it so it will look more like a leg.  He will have to wear his original leg for about 2 wks. but thats okay.  School is about to start here Aug 22 so guess that means summer is almost over.  Got 1 week left to have the girls out and to enjoy the last week before school starts.  Cherry and the 3 girls are heading to Calif. Sun for a week.  So they will have lots to talk about when they get home.  Love to all,  Ken and Glynda :)

Cataracts and Raccoons!

Ok, now that I have your attention.....

Wednesday nite about 10:30 I was sitting at the table checking emails when I heard scratching on the living room screen.  Usually Miss Kitty (our outside kitty) will "claw" the window if she wants me to come out or if she wants food.  So I grabbed her food dish and headed out to the porch.  Imagine my surprise when I saw that it was not Miss Kitty but a raccoon who had gotten up and was pawing at the window.  Guess she was hungry and wondering why I had not left the food dish outside for her to eat!  I dont usually bring in the food dish until about 11 but I had brought it in early Wed nite.  I'm tellin' you-these animals around here think that we are a 24 hr diner!  Even the birds let me know they were not happy with us on Wed. morning.  They had gone thru all their food Tues. so Wed. they came up on the porch and were eating out of the cat's food dish....  I think we have created monsters....  The raccoon did not run off to far.  I sat out on the porch for a while and she found a pecan on the ground and broke it open and ate it.  Then she scampered off.    On Thurs. Ken went in and had right eye cataract surgery.  All went well and we were home after several hours.  We went to the doctor yesterday for post op check up.  He said all was good.  We go back in 1 week.  After 4 weeks if Ken is happy with results, we've had no problems and vision is improved, then we will schedule his left eye.  Then he will have oh so much better eyesight.  He will still have to wear glasses due to his astigmatism but thats ok.  Dont know if I would know him without the glasses!  I hope everyone is staying inside and cool.  Those of us in Texas are suffering something awful with this drought...our yard is so crunchy - no longer lush and green.  Miss it cause now I have to wear shoes out in the yard.....hurts to walk on the grass now since it is so dry.  We pray for rain daily but it just doesnt happen!  I was reading in the paper yesterday that 7 weeks ago 25% of Texas was in severe drought conditions and now 75.5% of Texas is in severe drought conditions....that only 2 counties are not in the severe drought category.  Now that is super scary.  We spend almost all day in the house....I sit out on the porch early morning and at nite.  There is usually a nice little breeze that helps make it comfortable.  We have Miss Lily (9) coming out the first week of Aug. for her stay.  She has already let me know she wants to sew/quilt.  So think I have an easy pattern for her and we will make a big 24 x24" floor pillow unless she just has to do a quilt like her sister.  Well, that is it from Webberville.  Remember to hug those you love.  Love, hugs and kisses from us...Ken and Glynda :)

Here is Miss Kitty busily sewing her first quilt.

You've heard of WHERE"S WALDO - well here is my version.....WHERE'S LUCY!...

Here is Kitty with her finished quilt.  I cant get over what an awesome job she did!  It was bound with black fabric and backed with the same black.  We used buttons to tie the quilt instead of quilting each square.

Well, hard to believe a week has come and gone.  I am trying to figure out where summer has gone.  With school starting Aug. 22 the summer is almost over now.  WOW!  This is a busy week for us.  Yesterday I went and helped my niece Cherry and my sister Beckie get Cherry's class room ready.  She is in a new class room this year so there was a lot to set up.  Today Ken had his 2nd fitting of his new leg.  Looks like if the modifications made today are good then at the next fitting - probably 2-3 weeks from now - they will be able to order the final leg.  Yahoo.  The new leg will have a foot that flexes some so it will make ambulating easier.  Right now there is no flexion in his foot.  We are so excited.  Tomorrow (Wed.) we go to Seton Northwest for his pre op appointment for his cataract surgery.  Then we go back to the hosp. on Thurs for the surgery, and Fri. AM we have post op visit.  So the week will be busy.  Hope nextg week I can get out in the shop and finish up a couple of projects I am working on.  I have had the neatest bird come up in the back yard.  I have tried to get pictures of it - but it is so skiddish  - flies away each time I go out and stays away until I come in the house.  It is a small bird about the size of a chickadee.  The head is blue, body red and wings green.  I have had 2 in the yard.  I am gonna have to get a book on Texas birds and see if I can find out what it is.  If anyone knows please let me know.   When we lived in Arlington I worked for an orthopedic surgeon and his son Dane is now in NY singing opera.  Go to YouTube.com and search Dane Reese and see his clips and hear him sing....OMG!!!! he is so wonderful.  He has been in Italy this week at a Italian Opera Festival singing.   He was invited to attend....so shows you how good he is.  Would love for yall to go take a look.   Well, I had better go...Americas Got Talent is coming on.....gotta see what Pierce Morgan has to say today!  Love to all....Ken and Glynda :)

It appears that we are boring Ethel beyond measure!  Guess she is saying..."mom! not another picture".

We got out in the shop to play with my new Cricut cartridge - here Kitty made a 4" Sweet Shop building.  Isnt it the cutest little thing.

Next we made a 71/2" house from the same cartridge. This is the best cartridge.  It makes boxes that look like a cupcake, a double dip ice cream cone, a cake slice, these houses and shops.  They will hold treats are you can add the insert and they will hold 1, 2 or 3 cupcakes.

Next we used Campin' Critters and made tents - these are cut at 7 1/2" - they even have the slit in the flap so you can go inside the tent.  We made no cards this time, but we went wild with the Cricut

Kitty was working on her quilt, and  we were laying the squares out as we made them, and Lucy had to get on top of them and roll around...

And here is Kitty showing off her first quilt ever!  And not only is this her first quilt but her first time to sew.  She did a wonderful job - so proud of her.  It measures 40" x 50" - made up of 20 10"  blocks....so a big project for her first attempt!

Well, it is hard to believe that summer is half over....dont know where time has gone to.  It is just flying by.  I must admit that since it is so hot outside that we are both staying inside a lot more this summer.  I am either in the house or in the shop.  As you can tell by the first few pics I am playing with my Cricut a lot.  I have not really done a lot with the 3D portions of the cartidges so this past week while Kitty was here I did.  Thurs/Fri Lily was also here so all 3 of us made sweet shop and house.  Ken has gone in and had the casting made for his new leg.  Cant believe that it is time for him to get a new leg.  He has had the first fitting, adjustments were made, it has been sent back to company and we are awaiting the revised model to come in.  He will have probably 5 or 6 fittings to get it just right and then the final leg will be made.  We are hoping to have it by time we go to Georgia for Sept. wedding.  We have been pretty quiet this summer, we have made a trip to Tyler and we plan another one in Aug. if all goes well.  Cherry's girls have a busy summer but are finding time to come to "Camp MooMoo" as Kitty calls it. (LOL).  Too funny.  She thinks I should do this for a living...have a summer camp and teach everyone to sew.  I DONT think so.  I chose the crazy string quilt for her cause it is oh so forgiving, and for someone who has never sewn before - the perfect start.  Lily will be here next week for her week and she wants to learn to sew to.  Think for her we will do a pillow or something smaller.....at 9 think a big project will be tooooo much.  We started sewing Kitty's  quilt top around noon, broke for dinner and then finished up at 12:30am.....yep - I said 12:30am!!!!  She was like this sewing machine.....more MooMoo, more!!!!!  But we stopped at 20 blocks.  We got up the next day and sewed all the blocks together.  Today I will add the backing and batting, and then instead of quilting it, I am gonna tie it at the intersections of the X.  We are using bright neon colored flip flop buttons.....gonna be great.  She is still admazed that she did this all herself.  All I did was cut the fabrics, and then iron.  I taught her to use the rotary cutter, but it scared her a bit.....so she left cutting to me.  Now she wants to do another one....to learn a new quilt pattern.  We are thinking of doing a log cabin, or 9 patch pattern.  These are less forgiving, will be a bit more challenging but still an easy one for her to do.  It seems hard to believe that this time last year Ken had already had a couple of surgeries and we were still looking at several more.  He had a rough year last year, but this year we  have been blessed and he is doing so much better.  I am lovin' the new power chair.  He doesnt really use it much in the house, but it is so wonderful when we get out and about....he just zooms everywhere.  I will get a pic of the finished quilt and post it next time.  Will probably have pics of Lily and her projects.  Hope everyone has a wonderful week and make sure to hug the ones you love...... Ken and Glynda :)

Its oh so cooooool!

Several weeks ago I had shown you some note cards I had made. Today I can show you the other design I made.  Judy received these as a Mothers Day gift from her daughter Shelly.  Since they had the initial J on them didnt want Judy to see them and figure out they were for her.  She got the package this week so now I can share these with you.  They were fun and quick to put together.  Think that this may be a great Christmas teachers gifts.

Here are just 3 of the designs.  I made 10 note cards using red/black/white.  I had 5 papers and made 2 of each.

Hi everyone:  today we had our new a/c and heat unit installed.  They arrived about 9:30 so until they finished around 3 we had no a/c but now...wow...it is nice and cool.  Thank goodness for floor and ceiling fans.  They kept us pretty comfortable.  Monday Ken goes in and has a cast made for his permanent leg.  The one he has now is considered "temporary" because it has the titanium post.  But the permanent one will have "flesh" colored covering over the whole leg and will look more like a leg.  So this is exciting cause it means that Ken has done really well and the stump has healed completely and very well.  We have been very blessed with the healing and there has been no infections or other problems.  Thank you Lord!!!  We are also gonna see about a waterproof leg that he can wear in the shower.  That will be really nice for Ken.  Sunday is Fathers Day...so hope everyone has a wonderful day.  Remember to call your dad and let him know you love him and appreciate all he has done for you.  Plans are to take Ken out on Sat. for his Father's Day dinner.  He hasnt let me know where he wants to go yet....he said something about Amarillo....but he was joking (or at least I hope he was!!! LOL).  Love to all.  Ken and Glynda:)
